Intelligence Is NOT The Grounds For Achieving Your Goals
This next session is about goals, goal setting and how to be a successful person. So, what do you define as a successful life? Maybe you want to live my dream of traveling and seeing the world? Perhaps you want to find the love of your life and have a happy family? Or maybe you wish to lead your own business. Let me say this so it sticks with ya. Also, this is another law I live by; you do not have to be a genius to success. You just need a plan for success.
Got it? No matter how smart you think you are, no matter how far you’ve gotten with your schooling, none of it matters unless you have a plan of action. Plan for success, degrees aren’t automatic life winners, so don’t treat them as one, k? Of course, having a degree can indeed aid with whatever plan you create, but even so, there are so many routes to your dream that anything can really lead you there. Plans are at the fundamental basis to succeeding in life. The best part about plans is that there is no requirement to make them; you just have to have the patience and commitment to see it through . Remember, success at life should be whatever it is that makes you happy. That’s what I believe is the purpose of life.
Do Not Base YOUR Success On What Other People Do
A lot of people lead very rewarding lives; they have fancy homes, they’re CEOs of their own company… and yet, they can be the most miserable person on Earth. With that fact stated, I don’t want you to define a successful life as making it big, or getting that promotion. This is your life, you should go through it happily. Of course, living big and promotions do seem nice, but we’re all different. I would never want to be at the top if I knew I was going to be miserable for the rest of my life. But, you get it... your happiness should be the basis for every goal you set.
A Key, But Not Deciding, Factor In Obtaining Success
Even if your plan requires something you don’t have yet, there is always an alternative approach. If you plan accordingly, all paths will lead you to the same goal. The trick to THAT is to look at all paths to your goal from all angles. It also helps to stay connected with people. I recall a lot of my High School peers who have chosen to drop everyone they knew from their life. With connections, you can realize your dreams faster and more conveniently. All of the people you choose to drop from your life could have very well been a means to get you to your destination. So remember that. Of course, it’s too late for me since I’m also guilty of doing that, but, for you…. keep your connections.
Your life isn’t over until you say it is, so no matter how young or old you think you are, because bear in mind, you’re only as old as you make yourself out to be, your time to shine can be now! Here’s what I want you to do, RIGHT NOW. (I doubt you will, but you should. :D)
How to Grasp Your Goals Without Being Lost
Think about a life accomplishment that will make you happy; consider this your life’s goal. From there, I want you to draw a line going down and write the last step that will accomplish your goal. From that, make another line that explains how to make THAT happen and so on and so forth. Let me give you an example. We’ll take ONE of my goals and use that, k?
MATTHEW'S GOAL: Create the Greatest RPGs of all time!
That’s just a very VERY general example of the steps I personally need to take in order to make this life dream come true. You get the general idea though, make your final goal at the top with all of the steps branched out below it. Of course, each step can have two or more steps in order to complete that particular step, so, continually branch. Remember, the more thorough you are, the better grasp you’ll have and the more secure you’ll feel. And, while it does seem like a lot of work and patience… this is our dream we’re talking about. Don't end up like a drone with no purpose, drive or motivation.
Finally, Let NO ONE Get In Your Way
Remember, don’t ever let ANYTHING or ANYONE get in the way of making your dream a reality: not friends, nor parents, nor your priest, nor your counselor, nor your therapist. NO ONE. Remove yourself from those who continually doubt you and your abilities. Otherwise, you’ll start to think by what you’re told. It's never too late to fulfill a dream; stop slacking and start planning strategically. |
